Chinese Valentine’s Day
I had a Chinese lesson this morning and my wonderful teacher told me a story about Chinese Valentine’s Day. I love history, folklore and it was so much fun to hear the story (in Chinese) and I used to love looking at stars as a kid. I am positive that one day, I’ll be telling this story to my kids for a bed time story.
My teacher also has a blog and I had told her a story about breaking umbrellas in Hong Kong from the typhoon. Go check out her drawing based on my story!
And now… here is the story about Chinese Valentine’s Day (with a little sassy input by moi)!
And I know this probably won’t happen (because I am not very good at drawing) but please do not take my photos without my permission. Thank you!

and… I probably didn’t tell the story exactly right. But this is what I remember.
i forgot to mention, i think once the couple got married…. they didn’t want to work anymore. which could have also angered the goddess. hmmm many version of the same story.
oh yeah! there’s a korean folklore based on this too! i think if i remember correctly, the korean version adds that it rains a lot on 7/7 because the reunited lovers are so happy/sad that they finally got to meet. at least that’s how i remember it. neat stuff!
yes! you’re right, it’s called 칠석 and was based off of the chinese story. it rains a lot cuz it’s monsoon season and supposedly the couple’s tears. how sad.
haha yeah I remember when I was little and it would rain on that day, I believed it was them!
I understood all of the chinese!!
YAY
this is the cutest illustration eva! hahaha i learned so much!
What an awesome story!! Love it! Haha the cow talking was my favorite part.
LOL I love adding my own renditions
Such cute drawings and such a nice way to tell this story
7/7 ~ On this day all couples should stare up into the sky and pray that their love will be everlasting!
